Creating knowledge in various (digital) environments

After arriving from Lund last evening I have been participating in the Creating Knowledge V conference in Åbo. There has been several interesting presentations resonating closely with my ongoing projects. Annemaree Lloyd talked about her studies on information practices in workplace contexts, and highlighted several interesting aspects, which I have been looking at while studying information work in different contexts.

Second Lifeen on perustettu suomalaisten toimijoiden yhteinen EduFinland-saari (SLurl: EduFinland/84/140/25). Suomen eOppimiskeskus perusti saaren yhteistyökumppaniensa kanssa. Saaren toimijat tarjoavat tilaisuuden tutustua virtuaalimaailmaan opastetusti. Nyt saarella on meneillään vilkasta rakennustoimintaa. Opetus-, tutkimustoiminta ja muu toiminta saarella käynnistyy varsinaisesti vasta syksyllä. EduFinland-alueelta suomalaiset oppilaitokset ja yleishyödylliset organisaatiot voivat hankkia maata opetus- ja tutkimustarkoitukseen.

The purpose of this survey is to map information sources used in writing and editing Wikipedia articles. The survey is a part of the research project "Information service 2.0" conducted by Dr. Isto Huvila (Department of Information Studies, Åbo Akademi University, Finland) as a part of the Academy of Finland research project "Library 2.0 - a new participatory context". Symposium: Library 2.0 - a participatory future?

A symposium and a workshop organized by Library 2.0 – a new participatory context –research project at the Information Studies department of Åbo Akademi 3rd to 4th April 2008. The symposium gathers library 2.0 and web 2.0 experts from the Northern Europe to discuss the various aspects of library 2.0 and social media and their both practical and theoretical implications for libraries, information service and library and information science research. Invited presentations will given by a group of internationally renowned speakers, including Prof. Aira Lepik (Tallinn University), Kari A.
